Not Kidding Around – Big News!

AN UPDATE FROM OUR CREATIVE DIRECTOR, KARI SHIPMAN

Here at Juniper James, we’ve been on hiatus since the arrival of my little one in July, and the last few months have been wonderful. My husband and I have had our hands full finding our rhythm as a family, and connecting with our daughter. I am choosing to continue to stay at home as a mom, and in that, was open to new partnerships that would enable me to continue making a difference, use my skills and work with great people. I am proud to say, we have found just that:

I am now the official (and exclusive) Stylist
for Kidaround Magazine.

kidaround

My main undertaking is conceptualizing and styling Kidaround’s covers, starting with their March/April issue, shooting early January, and I am beyond excited to be collaborating again with our favorite photographer, Sarah Hawkins of SHockins Photography for this first issue.

I have been invited  to not just be their stylist, but also a part of the Kidaround Team, speaking into the vision for each edition, styling Kidaround to bring each issue to life in a way that helps inspire and move families forward, as well as helping to translate that over to Kidaround’s digital and social channels.

Most importantly, Kidaround has a heart that strives for what we strive for here at Juniper James – content and stories that make a difference:  They are also giving us the opportunity to periodically feature the makeover of someone special, inspiring and deserving (child fighting a terminal illness, special needs children, homeless mother, etc.).

Amidst this exciting new endeavor, we will continue to offer our individual and editorial styling services. Contact us to book your appointments starting in February!

Stay tuned – our team is looking forward to enriching the lives of families
in Sacramento with Kidaround, and making a little magic in this next year!

MEET LACEY GOOD.LAC 04bLacey was born with Down Syndrome in 1989
and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2012.

Despite her diagnosis and the need to test her insulin levels throughout the day, spunky, positive and independent. Lacey’s life is anything but boring:

  • Special Olympics for many years.
  • Bowling, swimming, soccer, baseball, basketball and cheerleading.

  • While in High School, Lacey was asked to be the team manager for the Varsity Volleyball Team.  She completed the four years in working alongside the team and was able to receive her letter for her jacket.
  • LAC 02 Lacey  was able to take part in graduation and walk the stage with the rest of her classmates to receive her letter of completion.
  • Last month, Lacey was crowned queen in “The Shining Star Pageant” – a special needs beauty pageant
  • She currently attends Dream Theater ( Theatrical Arts Program) in Roseville where she performs in multiple productions a year.

She is a confident young lady who is also caring, outgoing and a heck of a lot of fun.LAC 05b

For Lacey’s look we were able to bring together a subtle combination of texture and color to look chic and modern while showing off her amazing red hair and vibrant smile.

MAY IS BIKE MONTH.
And we chose to celebrate by putting on a Bicycle Fashion Show
at The Crocker Art Museum, as part of their monthly #artmix event.

We asked nine women from our community who we admire, of all
sizes & nationalities to model for a photoshoot and in our fashion show.

Once again collaborating with talented Sacramento photographer Sarah Hawkins,
here’s a look at our 5 of our 9 models, in their looks styled by our JJ Crew.

men’s fashion: RUNNING RAMPANT.

MANLY MONDAY. {designer} JASON POWERS.

We met Jason back in April when we were putting on a big fashion show/fundraiser for people with disabilities {pics of the event HERE.}. He stepped in to save the day when another designer had dropped out, and we were SO happy to have him.

Not only is he a talented up & coming designer here in Sac, but an absolute sweetheart too. After working together on the show in April, he called a few weeks ago to say he wanted to make me a dress to wear to the upcoming Fashion’s Night Out Event. Just ’cause. See? Sweetheart. I want to show you the sketches for the fun & flirty dress, but they’re under wraps til the show. (!!)  { Rampant on FB. }

This is Jason’s dress in our fundraiser show. It was created from materials sourced from Thrift town. It started out as a large blue formal dress, a paisley skirt, and a pair of men’s pin-striped pants.

Below is a look at last year’s Rampant work…

When we caught up with Jason for the fitting the other day, we asked to see a recent piece (other than our dress), and he showed us some of his sweet new men’s wear…

Really liking this military-inspired lightweight jacket. Easy to throw on
over a t-shirt to add a little casual style to a simple look.

Mr. Powers has some big plans for the near future, one of which is a men’s lifeSTYLE blog. With  girly fashion bloggers abounding (whom we adore), it would be wonderful to have a consistent local guy’s perspective on style. We’ll keep you all in the loop.
In the meantime, go LIKE RAMPANT on FB.
XO JJ
