As a seasoned thrifty stylist, I can do an outfit for under $20 with my eyes closed. Jeans, a top, boots, accessories – manageable. But dressing up for a fancy event just inherently costs more, right? Not necessarily.

I was asked to be a part of the Hearts for the Arts charity event, and was determined to #1: have something new & glam to wear, and #2: still not spend more than $20.

When it was all said & done, I walked out of Thrift Town with
a whole new (secondhand) outfit for under $17.

The faux fur had black satin ribbons on each end,
so I simply crossed it at the waist and tied the ribbons in the back.
The  layered vintage necklace was perfect for the retro look.
Add a dash of red lipstick, and I was ready to go!

This outfit total: $16.96
Perfect little black dress: $2.99
Faux fur: $3.99
Vintage necklace: $1.99
Gold/Creme heels: $7.99

Where do you thrift? What’s the best piece you’ve found?
We asked our FB friends and a few of them said:

  • Debbie Milanova an emerald green Mandalay dress….
  • Adrienne Cheng Elizabeth and James black velvet mini dress with the tags still on in my size!

  • Emily Hunt It’s a simple T-shirt that says, “‘what a curious feeling,’ said Alice.”
I purchased it at a tiny thrift shop in London.

  • Patricia Lopez Gonzalez Brand new red Dolce Vita flats. Originally cost $135 I paid $13 at Reinvent Clothing Boutique downtown Roseville.
